Featured in a recent ‘Juvenile Trial Watch’ story on Breednet, expensive two year-old Not a Single Doubt colt Doubtland made a winning debut on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday.
Trained by Team Hawkes, Doubtland had shown good ability in his only two barrier trials and ran right up to that form when cruising home to win the 1100 metre juvenile contest by a length and three-quarters.
He raced a little greenly in patches for Brenton Avdulla and has an interesting head carriage, but his last furlong was very impressive when he put his mind on the job at hand.
“He was a bit slow away, got back and went left and right, so he’s really done this on raw ability,” said co-trainer Michael Hawkes.
“He’s still a green baby and will actually be a lot better next time in. It was a good first win and will be the first of many.”
Doubtland is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Villa Verde and a full brother to stakes-winner Pretty Fast and was bought for $1.1million from the Arrowfield draft at Inglis Easter by Orbis Bloodstock.
The most expensive yearling by his sire sold in 2019, he comes from the family of two Golden Slipper winners in Ha Ha and Rory’s Jester.
Arrowfield Stud will offer the current yearling from his dam Miss Sharapova, a filly by Shalaa (IRE), as Lot 78.
Not a Single Doubt quickly followed up in the next race to make it a winning double with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly Shout the Bar making it two wins in as many starts when scoring a remarkable last to first victory over 1150 metres.
A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainers from the Newhaven Park draft, Shout the Bar runs in the Mystery Downs colours for a big syndicate of owners that look to have a very nice filly on their hands.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott indicated she would work through her grades with the Brisbane Winter Carnival looming as the goal for this season.
Shout the Bar is from metro winning O’Reilly mare Drinks All Round, who comes from the family of dual Group I winner and $2.2million earner Rangirangdoo.
Segenhoe Stud will offer the full sister to Shout the Bar at Inglis Easter as Lot 416.
