Smooth Return for Pierata

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 9
The decision to race on for another season with Group I winning stallion Pierata looks like being a good one after the handsome son of Pierro cruised around under a hold in his first trial as a five year-old.

Pierata - image Steve HartThe Greg Hickman-trained Pierata was one of six starters in the 1000m course proper heat for Group and Listed class horses at Warwick Farm on Friday.

With Tommy Berry on board, he went about his work without any fuss, trailing the speed set by Cradle Mountain and went to the line under a strong hold.

Cradle Mountain held a 2-3/4 length advantage at the post with Pierata crossing the line another 4-1/4 lengths clear of talented Group II winner Kaonic.

The time for the heat was a handy 59.90 seconds with the last 600m run in 34.56.

A last start winner of the Group I ATC All Aged Stakes, Pierata is the $8 third favourite for The Everest and is set to resume in the Group III Concorde Stakes (1000m) Randwick on September 7.
