Sizzling Win for The Fire Trap

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 14
Promising Sizzling two year-old The Fire Trap ploughed through heavy ground to win at his last start at the Sunshine Coast and showed his talent and versatility when scoring even more easily on good ground at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Fire TrapTrained by Matthew Dunn at Murwillumbah, The Fire Trap (image Steve Hart) was well fancied and downed the favourite Master Ash to win the 1400 metre juvenile contest by the best part of a length impressing winning rider Hugh Bowman.

"He's a good horse,'' Bowman said.

"He's a very sensible two-year-old, he's very athletic, he's got good tactical speed, he ticks all the boxes.''

An $80,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase from the Lyndhurst Farm draft for his trainer and Neil Jenkinson, The Fire Trap has proven an astute purchase winning three of four starts and over $166,000 in prizemoney with the promise of much more to come

"This horse's form in Queensland had been good and I expected he would be competitive today,'' Bowman added.

"I still think he will develop more mentally so there is improvement to come from him.

"He showed a nice turn of foot today although the leader was tiring. When this horse learns what his job is he is going to be turning out in better class races.

"Judging on what I saw from him today I think he will run a mile (a1600m) so there is plenty to like about him.''

SizzlingThe Fire Trap is the first winner for Rasteira, a well related Flying Spur mare from the family of Group winning fillies Tulip, Musidora and Sacred Eye.

He is one of six winners for his young Newgate Farm based sire, who also has four stakes horses to his credit, three of them placed in Group races in Sizzling Belle, Secret Blaze and Sizzling Ace..

A Group I winning son of champion sire Snitzel, Sizzling stands at Newgate this spring at a fee of $16,500.
