No English National Stud for Tivaci

Media Release - Thursday December 14
Waikato Stud has decided against shuttling their popular freshman stallion Tivaci to Europe.

Tivaci - Sharon Lee ChapmanThe Group One-winning son of High Chaparral has received strong domestic patronage in 2017, having served a quality book of more than 140 mares.

"After such a successful season that has just gone so quickly, we have decided not to take up the offer of a Northern Hemisphere season at the English National Stud," Matamata farm principal Mark Chittick said.

"This decision was not taken lightly. As you know, this option was not in our original planning, but developed after the initial approach from the English National Stud.

"However, he would have been one of four first season sires within their operation so we felt his opportunities may become limited and we were not prepared to risk Tivaci on this venture.

"Rather, we feel the off-season at Waikato Stud will give us more chance to promote such an impressive horse to our constant stream of visitors."

Tivaci joined the Waikato Stud roster after winning six of his 21 starts, including the Gr.1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

"He is incredible to work with, inside and outside of the breeding barn and he has learned and worked in a very professional manner," Chittick said.

"We are especially proud of the book he has served. His fertility is fantastic and he has served 140 mares already. We are delighted with the quality of mares he has covered."

Tivaci's book included Group One winners Daffodil, Costume and I Do and the dams of Group One winners Ambitious Dragon, Kawi, Shamexpress, Brambles, Thee Auld Floozie and Consensus. – NZ Racing Desk.
