Turangga Farm Dispersal Poised to Set Scone Record

Media Release - Monday June 19

A DISPERSAL of mares and weanlings to be conducted on behalf of the Stuart Ramsey headed Turangga Stud by Inglis Bloodstock at a stand alone unreserved sale at the White Park sales centre Scone on Sunday July 23 could see a new high price established for the venue.

Brian Russell looks at the upcoming Turangga Farm Dispersal to be run by Inglis - Currently the record for Scone, the home for annual Inglis bloodstock sales for seventy years, is $120,000, a price paid for an I Am Invincible colt at the 2017 edition of the Hunter Valley Breeders sale in May.

The achievements of the Ramseys at Turangga, an upmarket quality stud in the Segenhoe Valley, ten minutes drive east of Scone, since they acquired this long established horse breeding complex in 2003 underlines the dispersal as one that should attract high level buyers.

HK champion Able Friend flew the flag for Turangga FarmRamsey bred performers have included Able Friend (Shamardal (USA), Hong Kong Horse of year, equal third best four and up in the 2014 and 2015 World Rankings), Headway (Champion Australian 2yo filly 2008-09, won VRC Coolmore-G1, AJC Sweet Embrace-G3, second Golden Slipper-G1), Sky Cuddle (Snippets, 6 wins, $862,280, won VRC Emirates.G1, Rose of Kingston-G2, G1 third twice), Highly Recommended (Fastnet Rock, won MVRC Alister Clark-G2), Mr. Murphy (Danehill (USA), 11 wins, $1,500,250, three Groups 1s in Melbourne), Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor; started twice for wins in Sydney at two, including the Listed Canonbury Stakes; standing Sun Stud, Victoria, first crop yearlings), Elite Falls ( More Than Ready (USA, won ATC Reisling-G2, second Oakleigh Plate-G1, third Golden Slipper), and Karuta Queen (Not a Single Doubt, 6 wins, $1,857,675, a leading 2yo, won Magic Millions 2YO Classic by 2.8 lens), to mention a few.

Some of these performers are out of mares in the 90 lot catalogue or have relations among them and have produced some of the 28 weanlings listed. For instance the mares (52), all of which, except a handful of young females who have not been to stud, are tested in foal.

Seven of the weanlings are by Trusting, one of two resident sires at the Turangga Stud. A winner in Sydney of the Hill Stakes, Chelmsford Stakes and Warwick Stakes and runner up in the Golden Rose, Epsom and George Main, he is a son of Tale of the Cat (USA) and the Zabeel Group 2 winner Legible.

Trusting has included in his first crop, current 3-year-olds, three winners at the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend. They were Weekend Affair (won Hawkesbury at fourth start), Eat My Trust (recorded third win in five outings when he won by 1.3 lens at the Gold Coast) and Trusted Warrior (romped to a seven lengths win at Launceston).

Out of a mare by More Than Ready, Trusted Warrior is one of the leaders of his generation in Tasmania with his efforts including a head second in the Sires' Produce Stakes at Launceston and a third of ten in the Hobart Guineas.

Trusting stands at Turangga with Money or the Gun, a magnificent looking son of Octagonal whose only three starts included a win at Cranbourne and second at Mornington. He was bred and raced by the Ramseys.

The Turangga dispersal sale follows the decision of the stud's manager, Stuart Ramsey's son John, and his wife Erin to establish their own property, one on which they provide breaking in, training and breeding services.

Stuart Ramsey is to continue to breed at Turangga, but on a reduced scale. He will retain a few fillies he has in work and will mate the stud's empty mares in the coming season with the view to selling them in foal next year. - Brian Russell Media
