One to Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 31
The ever growing tally of Snitzel two year-old winners rose to 34 on Wednesday with a stylish Warwick Farm victory for the three-quarter sister to smart stakes-winner Flippant.

David Pfieffer elected to throw two year-old filly I Am Excited in the deep end by running her on debut in the $150,000 Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at Scone on May 13.

She came up short, but only just, finishing a brave third to Debonairly and Lipizzan in the 1100 metre sprint.

SnitzelDropping back to maiden grade on Wednesday always looked an achievable goal and she duly saluted.

Ridden quiet early in the race by Kerrin McEvoy after jumping from a wide gate, I Am Excited found her feet back in the field and when steered into clear running produced a neat turn of foot to charge home and win by half a length.

"She's a nice filly on the improve and she has pleased us in her trials and ran well at Scone so it was very pleasing to see her do that after a tricky start and being back in the ruck. There's more to come from her,” said Kerrin McEvoy.

"She's still learning so I can see her as a three-year-old filly running in some black type races somewhere whether it is in Melbourne or here later in the autumn."

Raced by Bell River Thoroughbreds and partners, I Am Excited is a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Flippant, who is by Snitzel’s half-brother Hinchinbrook.

She is the third winner from three foals to race from Lady Beckworth, a half-sister by General Nediym to the dam of exceptional Group I winners Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.

Lady Beckworth was bought by Henry Field Bloodstock from Bell River Thoroughbreds at the 2016 Inglis Broodmare Sale for $400,000.

She produced a colt for SF Bloodstock last spring by Hinchinbrook, but unfortunately missed to Exceed and Excel.

I Am Excited is the 34th two year-old winner for Snitzel this season (31 in Australia), who is in a class of his own for churning out these juvenile winners.
