Iffraaj Gelding Claims the Grand Prix

Mark Smith - Saturday May 27

New Zealand- breds are having a day out at Eagle Farm and rack up another one, Order Again a progressive son of sire of the moment, Iffraaj (GB), opened his stakes account in the $150,000 Group III Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Eagle Farm.

It's been 41 years between drinks for trainer Brian Smith who won the Grand Prix with the great Balmerino in 1976.

It was a very near thing as Order Again clung to a nose advantage over Volatile Mix (Pentire) by a nose, with one and three-quarter lengths back to Violate (Sebring) in third

Order Again will now head to the Queensland Derby on June 10.

"I have tears in my eyes not because I am crying but because they are tears of relief. I have had my problems with this horse but I have never lost confidence in him," Smith told AAP.

"The future is very bright for him and the Derby will be the first step. When you get to my age (76 years), you treasure getting a good horse."

Smith also trained 1995 Group I Australian Oaks winner Circles Of Gold who would become a highly influential broodmare, and the Group II Brisbane Cup with Jetset Lad is owned by the Stewart family who also bred and own Order Again.

In fact, Order Again's dam, the winning Van Nistelrooy mare Glass Half Full is a half-sister to Jetset Lad.

Glass Half Full has a 2yo colt by Nom Du Jeu, a yearling colt by Alamosa and a weanling colt by Niagara.

She was bred back to Iffraaj (GB) last spring.

The sire of recent Group I Lockinge Stakes winner Ribchester and damsire of the highly promising Melody Belle, Iffraaj (GB) (pictured) will command a fee of $25,000 at Haunui Farm this spring.
