I Am Invincible Colt Tops Record Breaking Scone Yearling Sale

Media Release - Sunday May 14

A multitude of new records – top price, average, median and gross – assured the annual HTBA Scone Yearling Sale was a resounding success at White Park today.

I Am Invincible colt from Kiss Me SophieLeading trainer Paul Perry paid $120,000 forLot 99, an I Am Invincible x Kiss Me Sophie colt he described as "a colt who wouldn't have been out of place at much bigger sales than this'', making the yearling the most expensive ever sold at a Scone sale.

The purchase, which was offered by Yarrandi Farm, was one of several records set at the sale including average ($19,747, up 30% year-on-year), median ($15,000, up 50% year-on-year) and gross ($3,396,500, up 26% year-on-year).

Perry was thrilled with his top Lot purchase, welcoming another I Am Invincible colt into his stable.

"He's a real athletic-looking I Am Invincible. I've seen plenty of his progeny over the past few sales and this fella really looked the part, even better than some of those at the other major sales,'' Perry said.

"[I Am Invincible] is doing an amazing job. They come on quick, and they train on too, so you can't ask for much more than that from a stallion.''

"This colt is strong, robust, he just seemed to have something special about him, so hopefully we can develop him on the track now into a really nice racehorse.''

Inglis' National Bloodstock Manager Jonathan D'Arcy described today's sale results as "outstanding''.

"To the vendors, the buyers and the breeders, congratulations to you all because you have all come out winners today from the HTBA Inglis Scone Yearling Sale,'' D'Arcy said.

"There was as big a crowd as I've seen at White Park in a long time, the bidding was exceptional and the outstanding results wouldn't be possible if not for a fantastic catalogue of well-presented yearlings.

"To have almost 70% of vendors enjoy a perfect 100% clearance rate is extremely rewarding for them, but also for us as an auction house to see our clients enjoy more great results.''

Action at White Park continues tomorrow with 58 Lots in the HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, followed by the Scone Weanling & Thoroughbred Sale.

There is also a supplementary catalogue of 24 horses to be offered.

Selling starts at 11am.
