Bel Esprit's Sweet Sherry Takes the Euclase Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday May 7

With her win in Saturday's $500,000 Group II Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville, Bel Esprit filly Sweet Sherry took her stakes tally to three although they have been well spaced.

Winner of the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington when making her career debut back in October 2015, the 3yo filly added the Listed Bertocchi Crockett Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley 12 months later.

Back in the stables of Brent Stanley, after a stint with Leon and Troy Corstens when Stanley was serving a suspension for offences relating to the sale of a horse last year, Sweet Sherry held off the challenge of the fast finishing Fuhryk (Star Witness) by a head. (photo Darryl Sherer).

Clare Lindop, the rider of the third horse So You Too (So You Think) added to the worries of supporters of the favourite when firing in a protest against the winner alleging interference in the last 150m.

Stewards let the result stand advancing Sweet Sherry's record to 4 wins and 1 third from 12 starts with earnings of $653,300.

Owned by Steve Gillard, Sweet Sherry was a $260,000 purchase by Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds from the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling sale.

A half-sister to the multiple Group II winner Arinosa (Dash For Cash), the daughter of Bel Esprit is the sixth foal of the stakes-placed Amoroso ( Revoque), who was a $14,000 purchase by  Five Star Pastoral Company at the 2009 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale

Amoroso has a 2yo Dash For Cash colt named Andaz who was purchased by Chris Waller for $150,000 at last year's Inglis Premier Yearling sale.

After missing to Master Of Design in 2014, Amorosa foaled Fastnet Rock filly last spring and was bred back to More Than Ready (USA).
