Love Conquers All Filly Reigns in Gold Coast Guineas

Mark Smith - Sunday May 7

Ontrack Thoroughbreds Grant Morgan has a penchant for black thoroughbreds and it has served him well with the likes of champion sprinter Brazen Beau and Saturday's Group III Gold Coast Guineas winner Savanna Amour.

Winner of the Group II Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last spring, the John Meagher-trained filly held the challenge of the heavily backed Kiwi raider Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock) by a half-head with Godolphin's Tessera (Medaglia' d'Oro) a long-head back in third.

Meagher indicated the Tatt's Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 24 is on the agenda for the daughter of Love Conquers All and had not ruled out a tilt at the $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap at the same track on June 10. (photo Grant Courtney)

But as Grant Morgan told Racenet, he is no fan of the Eagle Farm track.

"I have got massive concerns about Eagle Farm and I don't mind saying that," Morgan said.

"We would love nothing more than to win the Stradbroke or Tatts Tiara but the way that Eagle Farm track is at the moment, she might not be going there.

"That is a great shame because she is well and truly up to winning both of those races.

"We might just give Savanna Amour a break and go to Melbourne again for the early spring."

A $100,000 purchase by Ontrack Thoroughbreds from the Toolooganvale Farm draft at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling sale, Savanna Amour advances her record to 4 wins and 2 thirds from 9 starts with earnings of $324,500.

She is the third foal of the Stravinsky mare Savanna La Mar a 5-time winner in Brisbane.

Purchased for $70,000 by Newgate Farm at the 2010 Magic Millions National Broodmare sale, Savanna La Mar is a half-sister to Group III winner Voodoo Beat out of Cajun Magic (Twig Moss) a half-sister to Group I Golden Slipper winner Marauding.

Savanna La Mar has a 2yo colt by Pierro and a filly foal by Dissident.

She was bred back to Super One last spring.
