Dynaformer's It's Somewhat Smashes Through the $3 Million Barrier.
Mark Smith - Sunday, 7 May 2017

Followings wins in the Group II Ajax Stakes at Rosehill and Group I Doncaster Mile at Randwick, It's Somewhat (USA) made it three in a row in Saturday's Group II Hollindale Stakes (1800m) to send Godolphin's retained trainer John O'Shea out on a winning note.

While William Buick was on the import in the Ajax Stakes and Zac Purton in the Doncaster Mile, it was Tye Angland who tested the 6-year-old geldings resolve.

He led every step of the way to defeat the gallant little mare Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt) by a half-neck with Maurus (GB) (Medicean) three-quarters of a length back in third.

It was the seventh stakes win in Australia for the son of Dynaformer advancing his overall record to 9 wins, 3 seconds and 7 thirds from 32 starts with earnings of $3,139,624.

With Darren Beadman set to take over as the interim head trainer for Godolphin, it was left to the former champion jockey to face the press.

"When we brought him up he was like a caged lion, ready to go," Beadman said.

"It was a fabulous win because they really served it up to him.

"He showed a lot of courage and lot of determination, there wouldn't be too many times a Doncaster winner been here on the Gold Coast.

"To have this horse win for John in his name is great. He has taught me an unbelievable amount over the past three years. He is a close friend.

"I haven't really had time to think of what's happened in the past week or so."

Previously trained in England by Mark Johnston, It's Somewhat showed potential from the outset. He was a Listed winner over seven furlongs at Newbury back in August 2013, then finished second, beaten a neck, in the Group II Royal Lodge Stakes over a mile at Newmarket.

In July 2014, he was third behind Mukhadram and Trading Leather in the Group I Coral-Eclipse over a mile and a quarter at Sandown Park.

By Americain's sire Dynaformer, It's Somewhat is out of the unraced Royal Academy mare Sometime herself a daughter of the champion broodmare Alidiva (Chief Singer).

Alidiva's first three foals were Group 1 winners, Taipan (by Last Tycoon) and a brother and sister to Sometime, One Thousand Guineas heroine Sleepytime and Sussex Stakes winner Ali-Royal, who stood for a short time at stud in Australia.
