Widden Sires Trifecta Wangoom Handicap

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 3
The $150,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on Wednesday produced a trifecta for Widden Stud based sires with Sebring gelding Ulmann powering clear ahead of Stellar Collision and Well Sprung, who are both by Star Witness.

Ulmann - Darryl ShererDarren Weir trained the first two home, although Ulmann was the lesser fancied of the two and raced away to win the 1200 metre sprint by more than two lengths.

Winning rider Ben Allen was well pleased with Ulmann, who charged to the line from back in the field.

"He was really good, did everything right and travelled sweet for me all the way," Allen said.

"He won that really well."

A $280,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Moody Racing from the Kia-Ora Stud draft, Ulmann was a stakes-winner at Flemington last spring and has the overall record of six wins and six placings from 23 starts with prizemoney nearing $440,000.

Bred by Kia Ora Stud, he is a three-quarter brother to Group III winner Mahisara and is one of six winners from good producer Darsini, a grand-daughter of Group I winner Midnight Fever.

He is also a three-quarter brother-in-blood to recent Sebring stakes-winner Candika, who is from a three-quarter sister to his dam Darsini.

Ulmann's sire Sebring is having another great season sitting in third place on the leading Australian sires by winners list and seventh by earnings.

Sebring stands this spring at Widden at a fee of $66,000.
