Bjorn Baker lost one star son of Written Tycoon, Winning Rupert, to the stallion barn but he will have no such worries with Music Magnate as the gelding took his stakes total to four after dominating Saturday's $200,000 Group II Ellyce Galvin Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm from start to finish.
With Jeff Lloyd in the saddle, Music Magnate kept up a strong gallop to defeat Hopfgarten by one and a quarter lengths with Miss Cover Girl the same distance back in third.
Winner of the Group I Doomben 10,000 last season, Music
"His run in the Canterbury Stakes wasn't too bad but his run in the Galaxy just wasn't him, and it was a little bit of a worry," Baker said.
"It is a relief he has won the Victory. That is a race that for me really signals the start of the Queensland Carnival and I have had a lot of luck in recent years in Queensland.
"He is going to be extremely competitive (in the 10,000), he wants a good track and the drier the better and Doomben suits him beautifully," Baker said.
The 5yo son of Written Tycoon advances his record to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 17 starts with earnings of $1,082,625.
Music Magnate was a $45,000 purchase by his trainer from the Westbury Stud draft at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling sale.
He is the third foal of the Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare Concert Girl, a half-sister to Group II Wellington Guineas winner
The
Concert Girl has an unnamed 2yo colt by Redwood (GB) and a weanling filly by Reliable Man (GB).
