Fastnet Rock stayer Torcedor indicated he'd be a force in the major European staying
races this year when beating Group I winner Order of St George to win the Group
III Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan in Ireland overnight.
Trained by Jessica Harrington and ridden by Colm O'Donoghue, Torcedor won
easily when returning for his first run at Leopardstown on April 5 and forged
clear to win this 1m6f contest by a length and a half.
"That was a big step forward for him," said Harrington. "I thought he'd come on
from Leopardstown but I'd no idea how far.
"I was worried the ground was too good because he'd won on slower ground at
Leopardstown. I was hoping it wasn't too quick for him but he seems very
versatile on ground now. Colm was very impressed and said he'd come on a lot
from Leopardstown.
"Looking at him you'd hope he'd become a Cup horse. I'll have a conference with
the owners and see where we go but I'd say we'll probably like to go to Ascot
with him.
"He has a very relaxed way of racing and you can put him where you like in a
race."
Torcedor was a 70,000 euro purchase for BBA Ireland / David Ellis from the
Arqana August Yearling Sale and has won four times and placed four times for Te
Akau Racing with this victory his first in a stakes race.
Torcedor is the best of five winners from Sadler's Wells mare Magnolia Lane, a
full sister to champion Stayer and four-time Group I Ascot Gold Cup winner
Yeats.
