Godolphin Import Stakes His Claim for Doncaster Mile

Mark Smith - Saturday March 25

After creating a huge impression when winning on his Australian debut at Rosehill on March 11, former French galloper Spectroscope (USA) kept his perfect record intact when winning Saturday's $150,000 Group III Rydges Parramatta Doncaster Prelude at Rosehill Gardens.

The striking son of Medaglia D'Oro (USA) earned a free ticket into the $3 million Group I Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 1.

With Corey Brown in the saddle Spectroscope (USA) dropped back to the tail of the field early.

After being strung up for a run between runners, Brown found a narrow seam and Spectroscope (USA) did the rest.

He came way in the closing stages to win by a length from the Anthony and Edward Cummings-trained No Doubt (Not A Single Doubt) with Marenostro (Duelled) a further one and a quarter length back in third. (photos Steve Hart)

Despite the ease of the win, trainer John O'Shea would not commit to a start next week.

"That will be a decision for the team to make upon reflection tomorrow," O'Shea said.

"See how the horse pulls up, see what Corey (Brown) thinks of him but it would appear he's going to get in with a nice lightweight.

"We needed him to ride him like that today.

"There is no point in making the long swooping run on him with the view that we may run him back next week we needed to give him as softer run as possible."

The Hollywood handsome black entire has the pedigree to back his good looks.

A winner at Chantilly and saint-Cloud when trained by Andre Fabre, Spectroscope placed in the Group II Prix Eugene Adam, Group II Prix du Prince d'Orange and Listed Prix Le Fabuleux before joing the stable of John O'Shea.

Bred by SF Bloodstock Spectroscope becomes the first stakes winner for the top-class Rock Of Gibraltar mare Diamondrella whose eight wins included the Grade I Belmont Just a Game Stakes and Grade I Keeneland First Lady Stakes.

Spectroscope is the 99th stakes winner for Darley shuttler Medaglia d'Oro (USA) who has 23 yearlings heading to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale.
