High
class mare Lady Lynette was the pin-up girl for Tasmanian racing when winning
14 races and over $1million in prizemoney so it was lovely see her first foal
Medlyn make a winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, three year-old Medaglia D'Oro (USA)
gelding Medlyn has been given time to mature, which looks to have been a good
decision.
He was well backed and led throughout to skip clear and win the 1100 metre
maiden by three and a half lengths.
There are no immediate lofty plans for Medlyn, although the prospect of a Queensland
campaign was mentioned as a possibility.
A $310,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse from the Baramul Stud
draft, Medlyn runs for a partnership involving Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, Gerry Harvey
and Kate Waterhouse.
He is the first foal for multiple Group II winner Lady Lynette, whose current
yearling, another colt by Medaglia D'Oro, sold for $500,000 at Magic Millions
this year to Gai Waterhouse and Justin Casse.
Waterhouse is no stranger to success with Medaglia D'oro, having won the Golden
Slipper with his high class son Vancouver in 2015.
