Nicks That Click

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 7
The Golden Slipper lead-ups at Randwick last Saturday produced two winners that highlighted a powerful affinity between two champion sires.

When Arrowfield Stud secured champion Chilean sire Hussonet (USA) for Australian stud duty back in 2003 it was always hoped he would be the perfect foil for the Danehill line sires that dominated their stallion roster.

That wish has been borne out and in particular Hussonet has achieved notable success with Redoute’s Choice and his sire sons.

Frolic (2f Husson x Leveller, by Redoute’s Choice), winner of the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes and Gunnison (2g Not a Single Doubt x Colorado Claire, by Hussonet), winner of the Group II ATC Todman Stakes are the latest stakes-winners to be bred on this nick. (images Steve Hart)

Also adding to the success is Group III winner and Group I MRC Blue Diamond runner-up Pariah (2c Redoute’s Choice x Secluded, by Hussonet)

Arion statistics show 97 runners to carry the Redoute’s Choice x Hussonet cross within five generations and 70 of them have won, so that is 72.2% winners to runners.

Even more impressive are the 18 stakes-winners headed by multiple Group I winners Extreme Choice and Majmu, so when evaluating a pedigree it’s a potent factor to consider.
