The very familiar racing colours of Peters Investment P/L were carried to victory in another prestigious Perth black-type event when Awaken scored a maiden stakes race success in the Listed WATC 1000 Guineas (1800m) at Ascot.
A first-crop daughter of Emirates Park shuttle stallion Dream Ahead (USA), Awaken went in to the contest the second string of four Peters' runners but produced a consummate performance to win the 3-year-old feature at just her third race start.
Positioned immediately behind the leaders until the home turn, Awaken loomed as a very likely winner soon after entering the home straight. Before too much longer the progressive filly had established a clear advantage on her rivals and then stayed on strongly to score by a length-and-a-quarter.
Awaken became the second domestic first-crop stakes winner sired by Dream Ahead and the stallion's 20th black-type horse worldwide.
A maternal grand-daughter of Redoute's Choice, she is bred on the very same cross of Dream Ahead's very recent Sydney Group-placed son Generalissimo, as well as the stallion's Group-placed 2-year-old daughter of last season Dreams Aplenty.
Awaken is the second recent Listed WATC 1000 Guineas winner for Bob Peters and his family to be sired by an Emirates Park stallion. The champion 3-year-old filly Delicacy (by Al Maher) also won the same black-type contest on the way to her SAJC Derby (G1)-SAJC Australasian Oaks (G1), WATC Derby (G2)-WATC Oaks (G3) double double.
