Front Keeps Burning!

Media Release - Tuesday February 28

There are already many chapters to the Burning Front story and he just keeps adding more, at his most recent outing the bold chestnut becoming the very first horse to win consecutive Carlyon Cups.

Burning Front - Grant CourtneyStraight to the lead in the Group 3 $150,000 contest at Caulfield, Burning Front was always travelling like the winner, giving his trademark kick at the turn and gamely holding off a late challenge from stable mate Humidor who held up the form with a fast finishing Peter Young Stakes second on Saturday.

It was win number 14 for the courageous performer who has amassed over $816,000 in stakes for a happy syndicate headed by breeder Justin Lovatt.

What a run Justin is having, just six days after Burning Front's victory, the son of Primus' 3/4 brother Autonomous gutsy claiming his maiden at Tatura - emerging victorious from a two horse war down the straight.

A horse who has always shown ability, Autonomous looks set to go right on with it having taken only slightly longer than Burning Front to break through!

And the best may still be to come for this in-form family with Burning Front's two-year-old half-sister Sekali showing promise. Due to make her debut in Saturday's Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville, the daughter of Written Tycoon was the highest priced filly to be purchased at the Inglis Premier II Sale; secured for $130,000.

Meanwhile Justin is part owner of the promising three-year-old Supergrass who he purchased as a yearling with Milford Thoroughbreds.

"We have been having a great run of late," Justin said, adding that watching the progeny of Burning Front and Autonomous' sire Primus succeed is a special thrill.

"I worked with him at Chatswood Stud and he was always one of my favourites," he said of the regally bred Flying Spur stallion he purchased to stand in Victoria a couple of years ago.

Currently second in the Super VOBIS breeders table, Justin beams when he talks about Burning Front who, with $100,000 of bonus payments, is the season's leading VOBIS horse.

"He is just a star!" he enthused.
