A deteriorating track drenched by constant rain played into the hands of John Thompson's tough Onemorenomore filly One More Honey in Saturday's $200,000 Group II Vale Edgar Britt OAM Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
A first-up winner at Randwick, One More Honey was beaten less than two lengths when fifth behind Teaspoon in the Group III Widden Stakes at Rosehill gardens at her most recent start.
Given a positive ride by Jay Ford, One More Honey needed the length of the straight to run down the Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Arctic Angel (Hard Spun) to score by one length with Teaspoon (Snitzel) a short-head back in third. (photo Steve Hart)
"She got through the ground well and was very strong through the line," Ford said.
"She's a real professional. She'll get further and just does everything right."
One More Honey carries the silks of Emirates Park Stud's Nasser Lootah who purchased her dam One Funny Honey (USA), carrying the Sweet Embrace winner, at the 2014 Patinack Farm dispersal for $50,000.
A daughter of
Purchased for $250,000 at the 2006 Keeneland September Yearling sale, One Funny Honey (USA) was back in the same sales ring four years later where she was purchased by Patinack Farm for $40,000.
She has an impressive looking yearling colt by Lope De Vega (IRE) heading to the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale (lot 211), and a filly foal by Dream Ahead (USA) born on September 30.
One Funny Honey (USA) was bred back to Al Maher last spring.
After making a slow start to his stud career at Vinery, Group I AJC Champagne Stakes winner Onemorenomore (Red Ransom) was transferred to Ridgeview Park Stud in 2015.
