Fifth Stakes Win for Hellova Street

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 22

The admirably consistent Hellova Street has only been further back than second once in seven starts this season.

Coming off a win in the Listed Luxbet Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m) at Hobart, the Scott Brunton-trained gelding made it three wins in succession with a length victory in Wednesday's $100,000 Listed Luxbet Mowbray Stakes (1600m) at Launceston.

Always in a striking position for David Pires, Hellova Street raced greenly in the closing stages but still proved too strong for Jerilderie Letter with Admiral a half-neck back in third.

It was the fifth stakes win for the son of Helike who claimed two renewals of the Listed TTC Newmarket Handicap and Listed TTC tattsbet.com stakes in addition to his victory in the Thomas Lyons Stakes.

His overall record advances to 12 wins, 7 seconds and 3 thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $499,275.

Bred and raced by Melinda and Larry Lamont and partners, Hellova Street is the second foal and second stakes-winner from the Secret Savings mare Butter Street a half-sister to the talented Miss Softhands (Bel Esprit) and the Foreplay gelding Kazio who made an exciting career debut with a fast-finishing win at Sale moments before his nephew's stakes win.

Butter Street has a 2yo colt by Tough Speed, a yearling colt by Needs Further and a colt foal by Mawingo (GER).
