Juvenile Trial Watch – Seeking Redemption and Another Star for Portelli?

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 20
Five juvenile heats at Warwick Farm on Monday morning produced some interesting results with an early Golden Slipper favourite attempting to rekindle the fire and the half-sister to a $2million plus earner posting a stylish win.

From WithinNot a Single Doubt filly From Within (pictured Steve Hart) looked star in the making when scoring easily on debut at Canterbury on December 31, but a quick trip to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic proved unsuccessful.

The Chris Waller trained filly started favourite, but crashed and burned to finish 13th after a luckless run.

Making her first public appearance since then this morning, she jumped smoothly for Kerrin McEvoy to stalk the leader and always appeared to be in second gear as she surged late to win by a head, running the 800 metres in 47.90 seconds which was the quickest two year-old heat.

She's entered for races at The Championships as well as the Golden Slipper, so it will be interesting to see if she can put the debacle of the Gold Coast behind her.

A $360,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Blue Sky Bloodstock, From Within is the fourth named foal for Zimaretto, whose three previous named foals are all winners headed by her full brother Cruden Bay, a juvenile stakes-winner.

Gary Portelli has the Golden Slipper favourite She Will Reign in his stable, but he'd also be pretty happy with flashy grey filly Dixie after her effort this morning.

A half-sister by Foxwedge to his former stable star Rebel Dane, Dixie was fourth at her first trial on February 6, but showed plenty of improvement from that outing with this fast finishing run.

Drawn the outside, Dixie was allowed to settle back in the field by Jason Collett and was a clear last turning for home.

Given clear running out wide she lengthened stride all the way down the straight to win running away by half a length in 48.70 seconds.

Retained to race by her breeders and carrying the same colours as her famous big brother Rebel Dane, Dixie is the fifth foal from More Than Ready (USA) mare Texarcana.

Other two year-old trial winners were Sheikha (Sebring), Evict (Sepoy), Speed Street (Al Maher).
