One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 20
He's the most expensive Not a Single Doubt yearling ever sold and he broke the ice in style at Canberra on Sunday earning a $50,000 Inglis bonus in winning the Lightning Ridge Plate for two year-olds on debut.

Gunnison as a yearlingAn $850,000 Inglis Easter purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Arrowfield stud draft, Gunnison was well educated with four previous trials under his belt, two of which he had won.

Allowed to settle in fourth by Mitchell Bell, Gunnison surged to the line to win the 1000 metre scamper by half a length.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Gunnison is entered for the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes, but there will be no lucrative stud career ahead of him as he has already been gelded.

Gunnison is the first foal of Group II winning Hussonet (USA) mare Colorado Claire, a half-sister to Group II winner Moonovermanhattan and to the dam of Group III winner Selenia, who is by his sire Not a Single Doubt.

Arrowfield Stud will offer the second foal of Colorado Claire, a filly by Snitzel , at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 84.
