King Of Caulfield Black Heart Bart Breaks the $3 Million Barrier

Mark Smith - Saturday February 11

The Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart broke through the $3million barrier in earnings following a convincing win in Saturday's $500,000 Group I Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) held at his favourite racetrack, Caulfield.

The son of Blackfriars is just about unbeatable at 'The Heath'.

His five starts at the track have resulted in four wins and a second. It took no less than the mighty Winx to deny his clean sweep in the Caulfield Stakes.

Besides the Orr his Group I wins at the track include the Memsie Stakes and Underwood Stakes in addition to the Group III Victoria.

Brad Rawiller was hard at work on the 6yo son of Blackfriars well before the turn but few horses in training have a greater will to win.

He turned what looked certain to be a tight finish with a rejuvenated Turn Me Loose into a comfortable win by a length with Sydneysider Ecuador showing he belonged in this class with a fighting third a further half a length back. (photos Grant Courtney).

The former Western Australian star advances his overall record to 15 wins, 12 seconds and 2 thirds from 38 starts with earnings of $3,118,950.

"You've got no idea how much I love this horse," Rawiller said.

"Darren has been fantastic to me, fantastic to so many people. He's such a great trainer but a great man as well.

Weir said he marvels at the bays tenacity.

"He's a beauty isn't he, what a horse to have in your stable," Weir said.

He's just very bombproof, a great racehorse and got a great ride by Brad today.

"He'll head to the Group 1 (Futurity Stakes)  in two weeks.

A $20,000 purchase for part owner Kim Renner at the 2012 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the draft of Lakeside Thoroughbreds, Black Heart Bart is the ninth and final foal of the At Talaq mare Sister Theresa who was acquired by Durham Lodge for $50,000 at the 2008 Great Southern Bloodstock sale.

A 6-time winner in Brisbane, Sister Theresa is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Savannah Success (Success Express) the dam of Group 1 WS Cox Plate winner and top sire Savabeel.

Sister Theresa's daughter Rebel Sister (Falbrav) is the dam of 3-time Listed stakes-winner Rebelson (Snippetson) and the Listed HG Bolton Sprint winner Rebel King (Universal Ruler).

VRC Derby winner Blackfriars (Danehill) just completed covering 94 mares at his sixteenth season at Scenic Lodge at a fee of $13,200.
