Now in the ownership of Kevin Maloney with renowned horseman Peter O'Brien at the helm, Segenhoe had its first yearling draft at Inglis Easter 2014 and at that sale 28% of the yearlings offered have emerged as Group winners.
Segenhoe place the emphasis on producing athletes first and with the oldest graduates from the farm now four year-olds, the list of notable performers is a fast growing and impressive honour roll.
Segenhoe star performers include Group I winner Eagle Way, Group II winner Ektifaa, Group III winner El Divino, Group III winner Serene Majesty, plus promising three year olds Petition, Manuel, Canalasso, Waterloo Sunset and Clockwork Orange .
The current crop of two year olds include stakes-winner Madenaaty and promising types Borooj, Legal Girl, Taking Aim and two highly promising recent trial performers Via Carlotta and Longmu.
Segenhoe Stud's Peter O'Brien takes us through their Inglis Classic draft.
Lot 234 Colt I Am Invincible x Spurs and Sashes, by Flying Spur
He's a terrific first foal, all quality. Beautifully bred colt out of a fast mare from a strong Black Type family and very much a two year-old type.
Lot 319 Colt Sepoy x Across the Moon, by Stratum
Has a beautiful action and is a strong close coupled two year-old type. Her first foal Intrepic won three of his first four starts showing stakes potential and has been sold to Hong Kong where he is in work with David Hall. It's also the family of outstanding mare Melito and this season's two year-old stakes-winner Pariah.
Lot 321 Colt Smart Missile x Adio, by Lonhro
Smashing colt that has had plenty of admirers. Has size, scope and substance. First foal of Adio, who was retired due to injury after winning her only two starts and John Hawkes felt she was a Group class filly. She's also by Lonhro, who I believe will be a great broodmare sire.
Lot 373 Colt All Too Hard x Brave Soul, by More Than Ready (USA)
He's a jump and run type colt, a real two year-old type from a speed family. Solar Charged has a smart two year-old in the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable called Sheikha that is entered for The Championships.
Lot 378 Colt Hinchinbrook x Butterfly Club, by Redoute's Choice
He's by a young stallion doing a great job and is a colt that has thrived on exercise and done nothing but improve throughout his prep. He always had a frame, but has transformed into a big strong lovely individual and again from a speed family.
Lot 392 Colt Zoustar x Cautious by Lonhro
Absolute quality. He was accepted into Inglis Easter, but we had the view to bring him to Classic where he could be a standout. He's as good a mover as you will see and looks a racehorse. I saw a lot of Zoustar's at the Magic Millions that all sold well and this colt is every bit as good as them.
Lot 397 Colt Dream Ahead (USA) x Charlety Star, by Arena
Very precocious two year-old type and is a half-brother to Group III winner Najoom, who could have been a Group I filly if not for going amiss. He's also a half-brother to a nice up and comer in Super Star Bob and it's a quality family that has produced Criterion and a host of other Group winners. I think people are starting to figure Dream Ahead out and he's had some nice three year-old winners of late.
Lot 523 Colt Sizzling x Hannah in a Hurry, More Than Ready (USA)
He's bred speed on speed from a family that has produced horses like Golden Archer and Butterscotch. Sizzling has impressed me so far and this colt does look like his pedigree and has a beautiful action.
Lot 590 Filly Bernardini (USA) x Lizawi, by Dubawi (IRE)
She's a quality filly and a great advertisement for her sire, who has had some very good fillies here. She glides across the ground like a real daisy cutter and is from a grand-daughter of Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes winner Golden Opinion.
