One of New South Wales' best and most experienced trainers, Scone based Greg Bennett, will retire from training immediately after The Championships to take on the role of Director of Racehorse Development at Aquis Farm.
Justin Fung, CEO of Aquis Farm, said "The Fung Family was delighted to have secured the services of Greg to manage the development of all the racing stock at Aquis Farm from point of purchase to retirement from racing".
Justin added, "Greg's role will be to manage and be responsible for the
development, pre-training and growth of our racehorses whilst on the farm and
to develop our relationships with the trainers that train for us".
"It is one thing to buy nice horses and another thing to have them trained by leading trainers but the development of the horses and their management from the time they are acquired to the time they are retired is a vital role. A role in which we, at Aquis Farm, think we need to have the very best in charge - and in Greg we think we have the very best," Fung said.
Greg Bennett said, "I am sad to leave training but I am excited by the opportunity this appointment creates for me and I look forward to getting to the Gold Coast and getting into it at Aquis Farm but having said that I have a job to do now and that is get my owners' horses winning races between now and the end of the Championships."
Greg, or more commonly known in the industry as "Benno", has been training thoroughbreds since 1990 and has been dedicated to educating and nurturing horses to be horses. A true horseman with over 40 years experience he has worked with and trained horses in America, polo ponies, as well as horses on film sets and across a plethora of disciplines.
Currently training on course at Scone with over 45 boxes, Greg's most recent highlight was training the 2016 winner of the NSW Country Championship Final, held at Royal Randwick with Clearly Innocent.
The philosophy that Greg works behind is that thoroughbreds should be ready to put their best foot forward to reward connections with a great race day experience for all. Also, believing that the placement of his horses is key to successful results.
Aquis Farm's year in 2016 was one that saw us grow in leaps and bounds with our horse development and breaking into the Queensland market. We went from zero to four stallions, over 180 foals, as well as multiple race winning horses and a prosperous sale at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
