The
Rosehill barrier trials on Tuesday might have been all about the return of Australian
Horse of the Year Winx, but there were also five juvenile heats that added
plenty of interest.
The Chris Waller trained Winx was never out of third gear finishing in third
place to Group I winner Music Magnate but it was a 900 metre pipe opener to get
her mind back on the job of being the best racehorse in the country!
The first juvenile heat went the way of promising Star Witness filly Divine
Messenger, the first foal of former brilliant Group I placed stakes-winning sprinter
Ladys Angel.
Prepared by Tony Gollan, Divine Messenger won her only previous trial at the
same venue on December 30 and looked good again when winning this heat from off
the pace by a neck in 54.10 seconds.
Bred by Ricky Surace's B2B Bloodstock, she was bought back at the Magic
Millions from the Widden Stud draft for $80,000 and looks well educated and ready to race.
The next two trials were won by expensive yearling purchases Boorooj (2f Exceed
and Excel x Unearthly), bought for $750,000 at Inglis Easter and Showtime (2c
Snitzel x Flidais), bought for $1.1 million at Magic Millions.
Following was a Magic Millions Adelaide bargain buy for $45,000, Mad for Art
(2f Artie Schiller (USA) x Miss Madoff) trained by Bjorn Baker.
The last heat was also the fastest with the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Redoute's
Choice colt Pariah turning in a likable performance to win by more than a
length in 53.90 seconds.
He showed good improvement on his first trial when third at Gosford on January
6 and is headed in the right direction.
Pariah carries the James Harron Bloodstock colours and was a $700,000 Inglis Easter
purchase from the Arrowfield draft.
He is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to dual Group I winner and $1.9 million
earner Melito being the first foal of metro winning Hussonet (USA) mare
Secluded.
