Newhaven
Park's promising young sire Delago Deluxe may not have to wait long for his
first winner with Tony McEvoy producing a likely prospect at the Pakenham barrier
trials on Friday morning.
Two year-old colt Scarecrow was having his first public outing and pleased connections
with his stylish win over the Godolphin owned Exceed and Excel colt Inquiry, who
was fourth in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial at his only run in the spring.
Ridden by Luke Currie, Scarecrow did everything right and zoomed to the line
along the fence to beat Inquiry by a length in the 900 metre trial with a wide
margin back to the rest of the field.
Bred and sold by Newhaven Park, Scarecrow was a $240,000 Inglis Easter purchase
for McEvoy Mitchell Racing and is a half-brother to smart metro winner Awasita
from Aemilee, a half-sister to Group II winner and sire Magic Albert.
"He's a quality colt," said Tony McEvoy.
"He was a little immature, so we're taking our time. He has a great head and
eye and has a lovely action as we saw in the trial."
Delago Deluxe still has plenty of yearlings to be offered at Magic Millions right
through to Sunday. Click here to see them.
