Queensland based Aquis Farm made headlines at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale
on Thursday when selling a stunning Medaglia D'Oro (USA) colt they bred themselves
for $1million.
Consigned as Lot 419, the handsome brown colt fetched
$1million to the bid of Hong Kong based buyers Little Kwok Hing Hung/Bahen
Bloodstock and is from the former Darley mare Sangfroid, a daughter of champion
sire Lonhro.
"We just thought he was the complete package - type, sire,
pedigree," Justin Bahen said.
Bred by Aquis Farm, the colt is the second living foal of Sangfroid, a
three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner and sire Denman. Sangfroid is a
daughter of Group I winner Preserve and is a sibling to Group winners Safeguard
and Archives.
His success in the ring has capped a great start to the sale for Aquis Farm,
who have sold nine horses to date at an average $272,222.
Owned by the Hong Kong based Fung family, Aquis Farm has made a keen impression
on the Australian bloodstock industry with strong support for their first
roster of stallions in Queensland last year.
Snitzel's brilliant Group II winning son Spill the Beans covered 194 mares
while the other Aquis sires were also popular – Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) (124),
Domesday (104) and Benfica (87).
