Kingstar Farm's young Snitzel stallion Salade sired his first winner at Murray
Bridge on Wednesday when three year-old gelding Nicoise saluted as a short
priced favourite.
Prepared by Michael Hickmott, Nicoise was having his first run since being
gelded and led all the way to win the 1200 metre maiden by three and a half
lengths.
Bred and retained to race by Matthew Sandblom, whose lime and purple colours
were carried to Group I success last year by I Am A Star, Nicoise is the first
winner for Celtic Night, a Secret Savings (USA) daughter of stakes-placed
Shurooq.
Nicoise is the first of three consecutive foals for Celtic Night by Salade, although
she had a change of pace last year and was covered by another of the Kingstar Farm
sires in Fastnet Rock's Group winning son Bull Point.
With his oldest progeny now three year-olds, Salade has only had small numbers
to represent him and has had six runners for Nicoise and two place-getters.
Standing at a fee of $4,400, Group II winning Salade is the first son of Snitzel to sire a
winner.
