Three
juvenile trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning produced a trio of well-bred
youngsters from the powerful stables of Chris Waller, Gerald Ryan and Peter and
Paul Snowden.
From the Snowden yard comes royally bred Exceed and Excel filly Boorooj, who runs
for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
A big strong filly that was bought for $750,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter
Yearling Sale, she led all the way for Hugh Bowman and won easily by more than
a length in 54.30 seconds.
Consigned by Segenhoe Stud for Fairway Thoroughbreds, Boorooj is a half-sister
to Group I winner Invest from Group I winning Zabeel mare Unearthly.
Boorooj was the second most expensive filly by Exceed and Excel sold in 2016
and interestingly the most expensive at $775,000 was also sold by Segenhoe Stud,
but featured at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
That filly, named Madeenaty is already a stakes-winner and will run this
Thursday in the Magic Millions 2YO event at Wyong.
The quickest of the three was Snitzel colt Menari, a homebred for George
Altomonte's Corumbene Stud that has been given to Gerald Ryan to train.
A handsome bay with a prominent white blaze, Menari jumped smartly for Josh Parr
to take up the lead and went to the line under his own steam to win the 900
metre heat in 53.10 seconds by a short half head.
He beat another Snitzel colt in Invader who carried the China Horse Club
colours and is a half-brother to star Hong Kong sprinter Not Listenin'tome.
Menari is from former brilliant stakes-winning two year-old Isurava, a full
sister to Group II winner Ichihara and stakes-winner Au Chocolat.
It's also the family of champion galloper and $6million earner Tie the Knot.
Star Thoroughbreds had an interesting winner with dashing grey So You Think colt
D'Argento showing good ability to win his heat in 54.00 seconds.
Prepared by Chris Waller, he was green from the gates and wanted to get going
fast, but settled when he beat off the other horses and turned for home in
front.
He found the line well under a hold to win by half a length in a trial that
also included Icon of Dubai, a half-brother by High Chaparral (IRE) to dual
Group I winning 2YO Pride of Dubai. Icon of Dubai trialled quietly and held his
ground to finish fourth.
D'Argento was a $135,000 Magic Millions purchase for star from the Baramul Stud
draft and is from stakes-winning juvenile Fullazz, a daughter of champion sire
Redoute's Choice.
