Fourth Stakes Win for Destiny's Kiss

Mark Smith - Saturday December 17

While he doesn't win out of turn nowadays, 8yo gelding Destiny's Kiss has been a poster boy for the value on offer at the Inglis Classic Yearling sale.

Raced by his breeder Nick Moraitis after failing to meet his modest $8,000 reserve at the 2010 Classic Sale, Destiny's Kiss took his earnings past $850,000 when charging home to claim his fourth stakes success in Saturday's $125,000 Listed Fugen Christmas Cup (2400m) at Randwick.

With his favoured track conditions, the veteran son of Power Of Destiny came from last under Josh Parr to win running away by one and a half-lengths from the stubborn Iggi Pop (Savabeel) with Danjeu (Montjeu) a nose away in third. (photo Steve Hart)

The bay gelding advances his overall record to 13 wins, 5 second and 8 thirds from 61 starts for earnings of $853,203.

Eleven of those 13 wins have come on tracks rated soft or worse.

"It (the rain) had to come eventually," winning trainer Joe Pride said.

"He's all courage. Get him onto a wet track and he's just a different horse."

Winning ride Josh Parr confirmed the heavy track was made to order.

"He just thrives on a wet track," Parr said.

"It's just incredible. His form is just phenomenal.

"He flopped out of the barriers and showed no early speed.

"Once I was able to get around Robert Thompson's mount my confidence grew a lot. The horse felt great a long way from home.

"He's just a tough little bugger."

Destiny's Kiss is out of the stakes-placed Stravinsky (USA) mare A Fairy's Kiss who is a sister to Listed stakes winner and Group 1 VRC Oaks runner-up Miss Scarlatti and a half-sister to Listed stakes winner Abidewithme (Redoute's Choice).

A Fairy's Kiss has a 2yo colt by So You Think and a yearling colt by Pierro.

She foaled a Star Witness filly on November 17.
