Seven
juvenile trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning held plenty of interest with the
reappearance of one of our more interesting trialers in recent weeks in blue-blooded
colt De Gaulle, whose manners were much improved.
An easy trial winner at Randwick last month, De Gaulle was somewhat erratic as
you can read about in the story from that day.
Much more tractable this time around, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt
led and won his 1050 metre trial by a narrow margin, albeit coasting home under
his own steam.
He clocked slightly faster time than the only other trial at the trip won by
Commands filly Popular for Godolphin.
Bred and retained to race by Newgate Farm and SF Bloodstock, De Gaulle is the
second foal of dual Group I winner Response, whose first foal is three year-old
Fastnet Rock filly Alter Call, a Breednet 'One to Watch' when winning at
Werribee on Sunday – click here to read about her.
Response was on-sold at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by
Newgate Farm fetching $1.5 million to the bid of Katsumi Yoshida and is now
based at Arrowfield Stud.
The fastest of five trials at the short 735 metre trip was the Gai Waterhouse
and Adrian Bott trained colt Hualalai, who was utterly dominant in winning his
heat by four lengths at his first public appearance.
The son of reigning champion sire Street Cry (IRE) jumped fast from near the
outside to cross and lead for Adam Hyeronimus before skipping away in the straight
to win in a brisk 41.70 seconds.
A $625,000 Magic Millions purchase for Spendthrift Farm from the Baramul Stud
draft, Hualalai is the second foal of Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner
Aloha.
Probably the most interesting juvenile runner of the morning was classy filly
Invincible Star, who won the Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes at her only start in
the spring and is Magic Millions bound.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly was given an easy time by
Kerrin McEvoy.
She jumped leisurely from an outside gate and ambled along at the rear until
she straightened for home when allowed to make ground to the line,
The I Am Invincible filly mustered pace impressively over the final furlong and
failed by a short half head to catch Not a Single Doubt filly Winter Bride showing
she is right on track for the big MM feature in January.
A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainer from the Yarraman Park
draft, Invincible Star runs for a big syndicate of owners including David and
Shiralee Lilley in whose colours she runs.
Other two year-old winners were One More Honey (Onemorenomore), Dinnigan
(Snitzel), Easy Go Easy Win (Savabeel).
