Honey Cara stepped
into her big sister's shoes on Friday night demolishing a strong field by six lengths
at Moonee Valley over the Cox Plate trip of 2040m.
A half-sister to promising stayer Amelie's Star (who is on the path back from injury),
Honey Cara took advantage of a soft lead to win running away over the 2040m by
a widening margin, her fourth win from 13 starts.
Bred to appreciate the step up in distance, the Darren Weir trained Honey Cara
raced away running quick sectionals and highlighting that she has the potential
to win at Black Type level like her half-sister Amelie's Star, winner of the
Group III ATC Colin Stephen Quality over 2400m in 2015.
Honey Cara had a few setbacks through her 3YO season which was a blow to owners
as she was heading to the ATC Oaks. However, that patience looks to be well
worth the wait.
A full outcross to Danehill being by Mossman from Zazita, a daughter of Zabeel,
it is expected that Honey Cara will continue to relish the staying trip and
further her racing career.
Honey Cara was a $30,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from
the Vinery Stud draft for part-owner Adrian Whittingham of Honeycomb Stud.
