The
most impressive winner at Happy Valley on Wednesday night was the John Moore
trained Star Witness three year-old Sea Jade, who bolted clear to win as he
pleased.
Sent out a hot favourite with Zac Purton in the saddle, Sea Jade skipped away
to win the 1200 metre sprint by four and a half lengths, his second sin from
seven starts.
A $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft for George Moore
Bloodstock, Sea Jade is a half-brother to six other winners being from the good
producer Aristocracy, a stakes-placed Danehill (USA) half-sister to Group I
winners Bluebird the Word and Porto Rocca.
Star Witness has had a flying start to the new season and is the leading third
crop sire with Australian earnings topping $1.8 million.
His star performers dual Group I winner Global Glamour and Group II winning
sprinter Star Turn have put him right on the map as a source of genuine top
class stakes horses.
Star Witness has 21
entries for Magic Millions and 18
for Inglis Classic.
