First Stakes Win for Bradbury Luck's Elegant Composure

Mark Smith - Saturday November 26

Winner of her first six starts, the Bradbury's Luck mare Elegant Composure met defeat for the first time when a close-up fourth at Doomben back in May.

Connections had a throw at the stumps in the Group II Dane Ripper Stakes in June where she was far from disgraced when beaten just over three lengths in seventh place.

She earned a spell and after 168 day hiatus, returned to the racetrack to earn a first stakes win for trainer Chris Anderson in Saturday's $100,000 Listed Colin McAlpine AM Memorial Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

With Larry Cassidy in the saddle, Elegant Composure ($8) was given all the advantages in the run before defeating the favourite Private Secretary (Husson), who came from last in the big field, by a length with Beatniks (Haradasun) one and a quarter lengths back in third.

"What a ride by Larry," an emotional Anderson enthused.

"That was the plan today. It was just try and sit behind the speed from that good gate. That was the tell-tale factor today.

"We said we'll have one crack at them and she just travelled up and put them away.

"Larry Cassidy has had three rides for me in the last three days for three winners and hopefully there will be one more tomorrow at the Sunshine Coast."

Consigned to the 2013 Magic Millions National Yearling sale by Glenlogan Park, Elegant Composure failed to make her $20,000 reserve.

Her overall record advances to 7 wins from 9 starts with earnings of $183,000.

The 5yo mare is the seventh foal of the imported Woodman mare Marsh Harrier (USA) a half-sister to multiple Group III winner Common Ground (Spinning World) and the French Listed winner Speciale (War Chant).

It's the family of Group 1 Aube Indienne (Bluebird) and the Group 1 Tatt's Tiare winner Pearl Tart (Shamardal).

March Harrier (USA) was sold for just $500 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare sale.

She has a 2yo filly by Publishing and foaled a colt by Profile In Style (USA) August 5.

Elegant Composure becomes the eighth stakes winner for Bradbury's Luck (Redoute's Choice) who now stands at Yarrandale Stud where his fee has been set at $7,700.
