Nicks That Click – Not a Single Doubt

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 24
As we move towards the 2017 yearling sale season everyone becomes a pedigree expert, so in a new series of Breednet articles we'll look at nicks that click which might help lead you to a future racetrack star.

Not a Single DoubtArrowfield Stud's Not a Single Doubt is the leading active Australian sire on current season earnings and winners, so we start this series with the man of the moment.

A small chunky close coupled sprinter, renowned for his ability to produce tough precocious juveniles, Not a Single Doubt has his most consistent results with daughters from a sire many would see as his polar opposite in Zabeel.

The nick has produced 16 winners from 17 runners, three of them stakes-winners – Gypsy Diamond, Clearly Innocent and Every Faith.

Renowned broodmare sires such as Royal Academy (USA), Last Tycoon (IRE), Red Ransom (USA) and Success Express (USA) have all enjoyed success with Not a Single Doubt as you would expect, while Hussonet (USA) has also achieved good results, which is to be expected given he stood at Arrowfield alongside Not a Single Doubt for many years.

Not a Single Doubt over Hussonet mares has produced seven winners from nine runners including dual Group I winner Extreme Choice and SW Selenia.

Not a Single Doubt comes from the same female family as former top class sire Snippets and line breeding him back to mares carrying Easy Date somewhere in their makeup has also proven an interesting exercise.

His dual Group I winner Miracles of Life is from a More Than Ready (USA) mare, whose dam is by Snippets and stakes-winner Single Style is from a daughter of the Snippets stallion Spartacus.

Miracles of Life is one of two stakes-winners by Not a Single Doubt from daughters of More Than Ready, who is always a massive plus in any pedigree that also involves Danehill.

They are a great mix and have combined to produce everything from a Golden Slipper winner (Sebring) to a Victoria Derby winner… in fact two of them (Prized Icon and Benicio).

The double up of Danehill blood tends to polarize people, so it's worth noting five of Not a Single Doubt's 35 stakes-winners in total carry a double cross of Danehill, set back a little in the 3 x 4 pattern.

Not a Single Doubt has 70 odd current yearlings with a significant percentage of those sure to find their way into sales next year with 32 headed to Magic Millions and 11 to Inglis Classic.
