Juvenile Trial Watch – Bluebloods and a Classic Bargain

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 22
Three juvenile trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning produced wins for two well bred Godolphin colts and a bargain based Inglis Classic purchase for Darby Racing – is she the next Yankee Rose?.

Two year-old Manhattan Rain filly She Will Reign was a woman on a mission for Ben Melham, dashing quickly to the front and running away from her rivals to be six lengths clear of them turning for home.

She Will Reign as a yearlingThe Gary Portelli trained filly kept up a good gallop to the line albeit held together to win the 900 metre heat by five lengths in 52.70.

She was purchased by Darby Racing for just $20,000 from the Ambergate Farm draft at Inglis Classic and is the first foal of metro winning Charge Forward mare Courgette, who was also raced by a Darby Racing syndicate.

Darby have enjoyed much success with their star filly and $2.1 million earner Yankee Rose, bought from Inglis Classic for just $10,000 in 2015, and will no doubt be hoping She Will Reign can follow in her footsteps.

Running the same time as the filly, but doing it in a completely different manner was the John O'Shea trained Street Cry (IRE) colt Trekking.

He was allowed to find his feet early and then powered home down the running for Tye Angland two win by nearly three lengths.

Trekking is the first foal of Outdoor, a minor winning Redoute's Choice daughter of Champion 3YO Filly Serenade Rose.

The first of the three juvenile trial winners was Coorg, who staged an impressive performance. coming from a clear last on the turn to win eased down by over a length for Tye Angland in 53:20.

Coorg is by Denman from Commands mare Madikeri, a half-sister to Group I winner Neroli from the family of Group I winner Benfica.

Madikeri was on-sold by Darley at the 2015 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale last year for just $3,000, so her new owners Mario and Jenni Cesnik are likely to be very pleased to find Coorg looks to have something!

Unfortunately, Madikeri slipped and missed her last two years, but if Coorg kicks a goal, persistence might prove very worthwhile.
