More Than Ready's Perfect Reflection Racing's Latest Millionaire

Mark Smith - Sunday November 6

One of the rare examples of a horse that did not rise to new heights for Darren Weir, Perfect Reflection celebrated her return home in Saturday's $250,000 Group II Lee-Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.

Back with Grant and Alana Williams, the Bob and Sandra Peters colour-bearer came from well back under Willy Pike to defeat stablemate Disposition (Reset) by half a length with Tradesman (Trade Fair) close up in third.

Perfect Reflection took a perfect five for five record east last season including a victory in the Group 1 Kingston Town Stakes.

At her first start for Weir she met defeat for the first time when third to Don't Doubt Mamma in the Group III The Vanity at Flemington.

Two weeks later the daughter of More Than Ready (photo Mark Smith) finished a tailed off last in the Group 1 Australian Guineas won by Palentino.

"It's good to see Perfect Reflection regain the form she showed here 12 months ago," Peters told The West Australian.

"We had worries after she ran last in the Australian Guineas at Melbourne's autumn carnival.

"Veterinarians couldn't detect problems when examining Perfect Reflection. Her Guineas failure remains a mystery.

"The main thing is that, after a third and a win at her first two starts this time in, she's on target again for carnival races."

In earning her fourth stakes victory, Perfect Reflection advances her overall record to 6 wins and 2 thirds from 9 starts with earnings of $1,049,950.

Perfect Reflection is one of four stakes-winners out of the Bluebird (USA) mare Reflected Image after Group III winner Ideal Image (More Than Ready) and Listed winners Elusive Image (Elusive Quality), and New Image (More Than Ready).

Reflected Image was purchased at the 1998 Inglis Easter Yearling sale and went on to win the 1999 Group II WA Oaks for Peters.

She has a 2yo Hard Spun (USA) colt named Dashing Image and a yearling filly by Melbourne Cup winner Americain (USA).

She was covered by Americain (USA) again last year but missed.
