Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Friday November 4

What do Newmarket, Rosehill Gardens, Deauville, Epsom, Ascot, The Curragh, Belmont, Goodwood, York, Leopardstown , Keeneland and Chantilly have in common?.

They all hosted Group 1 events in 2016 won by the progeny of the mighty Galileo.

From the start of the season with a Group 1 trifecta in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket to an historic 1-2-3 finish in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly, it has been a remarkable year for Coolmore's son of Sadler's Wells.

And it not over yet.

Some of his stars of the season like Found, Photo Call, Highland Reel, Seventh Heaven, and Alice Springs have dates with destiny in the Breeders' Cup meeting at Santa Anita this weekend.

Then there's The United States (photo Lisa Grimm) who could top off a magical week for Lloyd Williams in Saturday's $2 million Emirates (Mackinnon) Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

The United States is a full brother to this year's Group I Fillies Mile runner-up Hydrangea. The winner of that race was Galileo's RHODODENDRON (IRE), who, like Hydrangea, is out of a Pivotal mare

The United States is a half-brother to Group III winner and multiple Group 1 placed Fire Lily from Group II winner Beauty is Truth whose granddan Zelda (Caerleon) is a half-sister to the excellent shuttle stallion Last Tycoon.

When The United States made his career debut for Aidan O'Brien as a 2yo at The Curragh in July 2012, he defeated Dibayani by a head.

The pair would later meet up in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill where The United States relegated the talented Dibayani into fourth place.

So the stage is set for Galileo to cap off a remarkable season where he has comprehensively dominated as the preeminent sire in Europe.

Here is Galileo's 2016 Group I honour roll to date with the winners purse.
