Royal Ascot one of the options for Flying Artie

Brad Waters - Wednesday November 2

A crack at next year's Royal Ascot meeting is among the possibilities for Flying Artie after a significant share in the Coolmore Stud Stakes winner changed hands over the weekend.

Newgate Farm and the China Horse Club combined with other investors to buy a majority stake to race Flying Artie with his original owners Luskin Park Stud and Wilf Mula before he stands in the Hunter Valley at the end of his racing career.

Flying Artie's trainer Mick Price confirmed he had a brief chat to Ascot's international recruiter Nick Smith about the possibility of taking the colt overseas for the English carnival's big sprints in June.

"I did just speak to Nick Smith from Ascot and it's a possibility. Everything's on the table for him but he'll spell and set a plan for him," Price said

"I would do it if I think it's right for the horse to go there and if you think you can go there as a winter three-year-old, then it helps a northern hemisphere stud (career)."

Price said the addition of Newgate and the China Horse Club, who also bought a stake in the stable's other Group I-winning three-year-old Extreme Choice, would mean little change to Flying Artie's placement in the autumn.

Price said training Flying Artie to run 1600m in the Group I Australian Guineas was unlikely but the exciting galloper could take on the older horses in races like the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

"I don't think anything will change as such and I think they (Newgate and the China Horse Club) are pretty normal to train for," Price said.

"They know what we need to achieve.

"I'd say the Australian Guineas and those sort of races are drifting because he doesn't need to go to a mile,

"It just depends where you want to go."

Meanwhile, Price said Extreme Choice pulled up sound from his disappointing effort in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and had gone out for a spell.
