Debt Collector Stars for Ready to Run

Media Release - Monday October 31

The countdown is on to next month's New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale and, with another timely win, Sale graduate  Debt Collector (NZ) (Thorn Park) has bolstered his reputation as one of the brightest stars of Singapore racing.

Debt Collector - Singapore Turf ClubDebt Collector has now won the first two legs of Singapore's Triple Crown Series at Kranji, adding Sunday's S$700,000 Sgp-1 Raffles Cup (1800m) to his impressive win in the Sgp-1 Kranji Mile three weeks earlier.

Ridden once again by Michael Rodd for trainer Cliff Brown, Debt Collector followed his usual come-from-behind style and produced a powerful final 100 metres to prevail over a quality field. He lengthened impressively in the concluding stages to win by half a length from Quechua (Elusive Quality), while fellow Karaka graduate in War Affair (NZ) (O'Reilly) finished third.

"This horse is an absolute freak," trainer Cliff Brown said. "All week, I was not that confident he would win, but he's done it again.

"I genuinely thought he would run third or fourth in the last 200 metres. It's only in the last 50 metres that he found again. To do what he did today was just amazing. He never puts a foot wrong."

Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Debt Collector was purchased from the draft of Prima Park by Brown for $120,000 at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale. He has now won seven of his 10 starts and more than S$1.5 million in stakes.

However, Brown has ruled out a shot at an historic clean sweep of the Triple Crown Series.

"It's mission accomplished for him now," he said. "He's not running in the Gold Cup and will go for a break now."
