Champagne Debut Victory

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 29
A knockout winner of the Group I VRC Emirates Stakes back in 2004 for Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm, high class mare Sky Cuddle featured at Rosehill on Saturday as the dam of exciting two year-old filly Champagne Cuddles, a stylish debut winner of the $150,000 Pierro Plate for two year-olds.

Prepared by Bjorn Baker, Champagne Cuddles (pictured Steve Hart) won her only trial at Randwick on October 11 and was fit and ready to run.

Not a Single DoubtThe daughter of Not a Single Doubt travelled well for Jason Collett from gate one and zoomed along the fence over the concluding stages to win by a length and a half.

"She's only had the one trial so has lengths of improvement in her," revealed Bjorn Baker.

"With that prizemoney she's guaranteed a run now in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, so that will be the plan if we can get there in one piece."

Bred by Turangga Farm and consigned to the Magic Millions, Champagne Cuddles was passed in shy of her $200,000 reserve and is leased by Champagne Ladies Syndicate, a big syndicate of very excited women including members of the Ramsey family.

Sadly, Champagne Cuddles is the second last foal for Sky Cuddle, who died earlier this year leaving behind a yearling colt by Not a Single Doubt.

Bred and retained to race by Stuart Ramsey, Sky Cuddle was the best of five stakes-winners from the farm's blue hen producer Suggestive, so it would be lovely to see Champagne Cuddles gain Black Type and add further success to this terrific female family.
