Snitzel
has covered 200 plus books of mares in his past four seasons so has huge foal
crops coming through, so it's no surprise he sired both of the juvenile trial
winners at Rosehill on Tuesday morning.
Snitzel had the quinella in the first heat over 900 metres with the held
together colt Pymble scoring a narrow victory over the fast finishing Epic Rant
in the colours of Spendthrift Farm.
Trained by Gerald Ryan, Pymble was a $360,000 Magic Millions purchase from the
Kitchwin Hills draft for Belmont Bloodstock/ Vinery Stud and is a half-brother
to Group I VRC Myer Classic winner Hurtle Myrtel from the good producer
Ravenswood.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Epic Rant was a $500,000 purchase
from the Eureka Stud draft from the same sale and is a half-brother to Group II
BRC Queensland Guineas winner Express Air.
A homebred for Ingham Bloodstock, the Chris Waller trained filly Milanese Girl looked
a natural runner.
She mustered speed from an inside draw to lead and kicked away on the turn
before ambling to the line under her own steam to win by more than a length,
albeit running a second slower than the colts.
Milanese Girl is the second foal of Group II placed Encosta de Lago mare
Shawnee Girl, who was bought by the Inghams for $1million at Inglis Easter in
2008.
She came with a big pedigree being a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I
winner and sire Northern Meteor, so Shawnee Girl may well make a big impression
at stud in coming years.
Snitzel was the leading two year-old sire by winners last season (29 in
Australia) and was second to only Written Tycoon by earnings.
With another stellar crop of two year-olds to run for him, Snitzel could easily
go one better this season to take the title of Champion 2YO Sire outright.
