New Stakes-Winner for Nicconi

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 23
Talented Nicconi filly Caipirinha cast off maiden status with a stylish victory in the Listed WATC Belgravia Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Never further back than fourth in four previous starts, two of them in Group races won by star filly Whispering Brook, Caipirinha was sent out favourite for this 1200 metre sprint and emerged triumphant.

NicconiThe Simon Miller trained filly raced up on the pace and scooted clear to win by a length in the colours of Barry and Jan McRostie who have enjoyed much success with multiple Group II winner Miss Rose De Lago.

A $47,500 Magic Millions purchase from the Riversdale draft for the McRostie’s, Caipirinha is the first foal of Prostar, a half-sister by Starcraft to Group III winner Collate.

She is the ninth stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s Nicconi, who has developed into a highly reliable source of winners and is priced at great value this spring at $11,000.

Nicconi also had a smart winner at Randwick on Saturday with lightly raced mare Nieta scoring her fourth win from eight starts when saluting over 1000 metres for the John Thompson stable.
