Jeff Dosser has been enjoying getting to know ten-year-old stallion Torch Relay, a horse he recently welcomed to his Bangholme base.
"He is a really nice horse and I have been happy with him from the day he arrived," said Dosser who has been rapt with the way in which Torch Relay has settled in.
"And he is great with the mares, he is a very gentle stallion who is doing everything right."
A son of the great Lonhro bred by Woodlands Stud, Torch Relay was lightly raced but did show good ability winning two of his first three starts as a two-year-old.
Serving just small books of mares, Torch Relay has already been represented by the winner Flame Of Hope and a couple of promising placegetters.
Dosser has Torch Relay serving his own mares and is happy to welcome others for a fee of just $1650 (incl gst).
Torch Relay's eleven times Group One winning sire Lonhro has proven to be an outstanding stallion with 65 stakes winners and a winners-to-runners strike rate just short of 70%.
The sire of the Group One gallopers Pierro, Exosphere, Denman, The Conglomerate, Bounding, Beaded, Mental and Benfica, Lonhro boasts progeny earnings in excess of $77.5 million and he has sired winners all around the world - Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, France, Germany, America, Canada, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan and Dubai.
His sons Pierro and Exosphere are extremely popular with broodmare owners and he also has a couple of quiet achievers - good bread and butter stallions - in O'Lonhro and Zuberi.
Torch Relay is out of the wonderful Woodlands mare Olympic Flame, dam of nine winners including the durable dual Group One winning sprinter Sports, the Macau Group One winner Clown Master, the Group Three galloper Medals and the Silver Shadow Stakes winner Seika, in turn dam of the Group Three winner Clothilde.
This is a strong black-type family, one which members also include the classy gallopers Zirna, Top Charger, Sparkle 'N' Wonder, Crafty Irna, Vandalo, Territory, Amazing Me, Tavarenelle, Merry Shade, Damigos, Mudgee Grey and Invictus.
And of course the champion sprinter Takeover Target who so ably represented Australia on the international stage.
