Fastnet Rock Stakes Quinella

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 19
The fluorescent yellow colours of Darren Dance's Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock were carried to victory at Geelong on Wednesday in the Listed Rosemont Stud Stakes by talented Fastnet Rock mare Rockolicious.

RockoliciousPreviously trained by Chris Waller, Rockolicious (pictured Steve Hart) joined the Darren Weir stable back in June and was posting her first win for her new trainer.

Not beaten far when finishing fifth in the Group II VRC Blazer Stakes at here previous start, Rockolicious surged home from back in the field to score a half length win in the 1200 metre sprint over another Fastnet Rock mare in Zara Bay.

A $360,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Glastonbury Farm for Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock/ McKeever Bloodstock, Rockolicious has the overall record of five wins from 17 starts with prizemoney just shy of $250,000.

She was bred by Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds and is a sister-in-blood to Group II winner and sire Rothesay being one of five winners from royally bred producer Rock Diva.

A minor winner by Woodman (USA), Rock Diva is a daughter of triple Group I winner Canny Lass and is a sibling to stakes-winners Causeway Lass and Astute Angel as well as Schiaparelli, the dam of Rothesay, who is also by Fastnet Rock.

This is the family of Golden Slipper winners Canny Lad and Sepoy as well as Group I winners Camarena, Camarilla and Guelph, so Rock Diva comes from one of the most desirable families in the studbook.

Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock/ McKeever Bloodstock also purchased the current four year-old from Rock Diva, a Not a Single Doubt colt that made $120,000 at Magic Millions.

Given the name We're Sure, he has won four of 11 starts and nearly $170,000 for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable.

Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds decided to part company with Rock Diva in 2014 and not surprisingly Darren and Liz Dance were quick to scoop her up at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for just $45,000.

The 101st stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock, Rockolicious has done much to enhance her worth and that of her dam with this timely stakes win.
