One to Watch – Stawell

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 18
Waratah Thoroughbreds recently enjoyed Group I success in the ATC The Metropolitan with imported stayer Sir John Hawkwood (IRE) and it was another of their imports that caught our eye as the 'One to Watch' on Tuesday when making it two wins in as many starts at Stawell.

Sea the StarsA four year-old mare by Sea the Stars, the Darren Weir trained Sea the Sparkle (GB) scored on debut at Bendigo last month and repeated the dose when scoring by a length and a quarter over 1600 metres as favourite.

Sea the Sparkle is the second winner for stakes-winning Elusive Quality mare Elusive Sparkle (USA), who was purchased by Waratah Thoroughbreds for $1.2 million at the 2010 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

A half-sister to Champion 2YO and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, Elusive Sparkle has been given every opportunity to succeed by Waratah Thoroughbreds and has been covered by some of the best stallions in the world in recent years.

She has an unraced two year-old filly by Dubawi called Valley of Light that was sold as a foal at Tattersalls in 2014 for 400,000 guineas to John Ferguson Bloodstock, a yearling filly by Oasis Dream called Tieroko that is in Australia and a colt foal born this year by Japanese sire sensation Deep Impact.
