First Winner for Highly Recommended

Precocious youngster Waldorf has opened the account of his young Fastnet Rock sire Highly Recommended in New Zealand on Thursday at at Tauherenikau.

Waldorf - Race ImagesThe Andrew Campbell-trained juvenile was successful on debut to give the Berkeley Stud Stallion his first winner.

"He sat wide and still won nicely – it was a good effort and he's Karaka Million-nominated so we'll aim for that," said Campbell, who also won the opening event with Werther's brother Gobstopper.

Waldorf is a half-brother to Group III winner Timy Tyler and is the second winner for Pins mare Skite.

He was a $30,000 NZB Select Yearling Sale purchase for his trainer from the draft of Berkeley Stud.

A blue-blooded son of champion sire Fastnet Rock, Highly Recommended won two races in Victoria including the Group II MVRC Alister Clark Stakes before finding a place at stud in New Zealand.

He stands at a fee of $4,000.
