One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 5
The equal cheapest Redoute’s Choice recorded as a sale at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Sale has emerged as the One to Watch from Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Hawkes Racing trained three year-old Super Maxi has turned over a new leaf since being gelded and racked up his third win from three starts since then wen scoring easily over 1100 metres.

Taking on older rivals, Super Maxi led throughout and powered away to win by more than three lengths and has now three of six starts and close to $90,000 in prizemoney.

"It's (gelding) been the making of him really," co-trainer Michael Hawkes said.

super Maxi as a yearling"He's always had the ability but we said to the owners that the best thing to do was geld this horse."
The only blemish of the preparation was a second to Upscale over 1100 metres at Warwick Farm last month.

"To be fair I think he got beat by probably a Group horse last start," Hawkes said.
"But this bloke is definitely going places that's for sure.

"He might be flying under the radar a bit but he can't do any more than what he's done."

A $30,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Badgers Bloodstock, Super Maxi runs in the colours of Arrowfield and is one of two winners from Group III winning Rubiton mare Ocean Challenger.

Ocean Challenger has a yearling colt by Redoute’s Choice and was covered last year by Olympic Glory (IRE).
